Dubai Flights Prize Draw and 'Free' TriStars event at Sussex Tri 2008
Sightsavers Intl, the official race charity for the 2008 Sussex Triathlon, are giving away a pair of return flights to Dubai in a prize draw for individuals raising sponsorship at this years event. In another initiative Urbanrace have introduced a TriStar aquathlon race to the racing day which is completely FREE to enter. Race Director, Dan James commented; "We are constantly trying to improve our races and this year the Sussex Tri includes visually impaired athletes and a free junior TriStar event making it especially inclusive. Lots of people are also raising sponsorship for Sightsavers and the prize draw gives them a great incentive to help with this worthy cause". Triathlon Joins The Rockinghorse Appeal
Urbanrace are pleased to announce that The Rockinghorse Appeal will be the official race charity for the 2008 Brighton Triathlon. Rockinghorse is a registered charity that raises funds for medical equipment and services in the Brighton area. Race Director Dan James commented; 'It is great to know that our race will be raising revenue which will benefit the local community. It shall make the competitors efforts even more worthwhile'. Triathlon Awarded 'South East Event Of The Year!'
The Urbanrace Brighton
Triathlon event has been awarded South East Region 'Event Of The
Year' by Triathlon England, the sports national governing body.
The event is now being put forward to the National finals where
an independent panel will choose the British Triathlon Federation
'National Event Of The Year'. The final takes place at an awards
ceremony in Loughborough in early November.
We owe many thanks to
the authorities in Brighton who assisted us in creating an event
in one of Brighton's busiest areas and all our awesome stewards
and marshals who helped us look after the athletes and made it
a truly special occasion.

Sightsavers
International to partner with Urbanrace at Sussex Triathlon
Urbanrace are pleased to announce
an association with the charity Sightsavers
International to become the official race charity
for the 2008 Sussex Triathlon. Sightsavers (Charity No: 207544)
has been restoring sight and improving the lives of people who
are irreversibly blind in poor countries for over 50 years. The
link up will enable the charity to raise funds via race entry
fees, competitor sponsorship and race day donation. Just CLICK

Fantastic
New Year Planned For Urbanrace Triathlon
The Urbanrace Team have
been busy and we are really excited to announce a brand new race
for 2007. The Urbanrace Brighton Triathlon will take place on
16th September on closed roads and comprises a sea swim Novice,
Sprint and Olympic distance race in one of the UK's coolest cities.
Race Director, Kevan
Nicholson, commented 'Our team are extremely excited about bringing
an Urbanrace event to Brighton as it is crying out for a quality
triathlon on what is such a spectator friendly site. We know we
can build an amazing event at Brighton and the hard work is already
well under way. This is great news for the sport and for the local
community'.

Dan
James Gets 'South East Referee Of The Year''
Urbanrace's very own
race director, Dan James, was recently voted British Triathlon's
'South East Referee Of The Year'. Dan was voted for by members
of the British Triathlon Association in the region and will now
go forward to the National Awards later this month.
Dan was recognised
for his refereeing and volunteer work at many top events during
2005 including some of the UK's biggest races including Royal
Windsor, The London Triathlon, Salford and the National Sprint
Championships at Redditch. Dan said "Its great to receive
some recognition and I am looking forward to the national awards.
I have seen many different events this season from behind the
scenes and along the way met a whole host of superb people".
The national awards are to be held on 18 November in Loughborough.

To Chase 'The Aqualongers'
Urbanrace have confirmed
that twice World Aquathlon Champion and top class UK triathlete,
Richard Stannard, will be featuring in The Aqualong Race Off at
this year's event at Bewl Water. Richard will start behind the
main Aqualong race and attempt to chase down all the amateur athletes
in a unique and highly exciting pro versus amateur Race Off!!

Welcomes 'The Aqualong'
Urbanrace are very pleased
to launch a brand new open water event for 2005.
The Aqualong is the
only middle distance aquathlon in the UK and will be based at
the awesome surroundings of Bewl Water Reservoir, near Tunbridge
Wells.
The premium race is
a 3k swim followed by a 20k run and is ideal for those preparing
for long distance races in 2005. The event has something for everybody
including three supporting races = Olympic (1.5k, 10k) Novice
(750m, 5k).

Shop Launched
Urbanrace today have
launched its online shop which is
tailored specifically for the multisport athlete. The urbanrace
team have chosen some of their favourite book titles, nutrition
and training tools to assist novice or experienced athletes improve
their winter training and help with their performances next season.
The urbanrace team are promising new shop sections and products
over the coming months.
The shop has many features
including online order monitoring and a gift certificate system
enabling athletes to surprise multisport friends on that special
occasion.

The

Urbanrace is pleased
to announce that Preferred Mortgages has become event sponsor
for the 2004 Sussex Triathlon. Preferred is one of the UK's leading
mortgage lenders in the non-conforming market place and is one
of the largest employers in Haywards Heath where the company is
currently recruiting for additional staff.
When asked about the announcement
Urbanrace logistics director Kevan Nicholson said; "This is fabulous
news and demonstrates the momentum behind triathlon as one of
the fastest growing sports in the UK. The support of Preferred
Mortgages is enabling us to invest in our race for the benefit
of competitors and spectators alike. Steve Trew, one of the best
known names in British Triahtlon, has already been confirmed as
race commentator and lots of work is going on behind the scenes
to welcome the athletes on race day."
To celebrate the involvement
of our new sponsor Urbanrace have decided to reduce the entrance
fee of the race. We will be doing this by refunding BTA members
£3 on race day on production of their valid BTA licence.
Non BTA members will have NO further payment to make on race day
which is a £5 discount to the advertised entry fee.

Up With Cancer Research UK
Urbanrace have linked
up with Cancer Research UK so that competitors in the Sussex Triahtlon
can raise money for a good cause if they need that extra bit of
motivation for their training or they need a reason to embark
on a training schedule. More than one in three people wil be diagnosed
with cancer in their lifetime and one in four will die from cancer.

New
Website Launched
The new urbanrace website
was launched on 9 February 2004. The urbanrace management team
are promising the new website is just phase one of their long
term plans and that some exciting multisport events are in the
pipeline. Race Director Dan James commented;
"The urbanrace team are passionate about multisport and we want to help increase participation in our sport over the longer term. We have exciting plans for some new multisport events and our website is just the start. We will be developing the site over the coming months and will soon be adding new features that will appeal to both novice and experienced athletes alike."
When asked about future race plans Logistics Director Kevan Nicholson was equally enthusiastic; "We are committed to creating some
great races and we are working hard on our plans. The team have
some great ideas and as we roll out the race portfolio we think
we shall have a challenge for everyone".
